Overton First XI Continue Winning Form as Second and Third Teams Fall Short

Overton Cricket Club’s First XI maintained their strong run of form with a convincing seven-wicket victory over Kingsclere CC on Saturday, while the club’s Second and Third XIs suffered defeats in their respective Hampshire League fixtures.

After winning the toss, Kingsclere were bowled out for 174 in 38.3 overs. Overton’s bowlers kept the visitors under pressure throughout the innings, restricting their scoring and taking regular wickets.

In reply, Overton made light work of the target, reaching 176 for 3 in just 29.2 overs to secure a comfortable seven-wicket win. The victory earned Overton 24 points and keeps their excellent season on track.

There was disappointment for the Second XI, who travelled to face Hurstbourne Priors CC. The hosts posted 202 all out from 38.1 overs, setting Overton a challenging target.

Despite a determined effort with the bat, Overton were dismissed for 175 in 39.5 overs, leaving Hurstbourne Priors victorious by 27 runs. Overton collected 11 points from the contest.

Meanwhile, the Third XI endured a difficult afternoon against Odiham & Greywell CC Fourth XI.

Batting first, Odiham & Greywell amassed an imposing 251 for 6 from their allotted 40 overs. Overton’s reply never gained momentum, and they were eventually bowled out for 119 in 35.1 overs.

The result handed Odiham & Greywell a comprehensive 132-run victory, with Overton taking six points from the fixture.

The mixed set of results means it was a successful day for the club’s First XI, while the Second and Third XIs will be looking to bounce back in their next league matches.
