The festive season came alive in Overton on Saturday as the village hosted its annual Christmas market, an event that has truly set the tone for the holidays. The streets were filled with the sights, sounds, and scents of Christmas, thanks to the hard work and dedication of all involved.
From the bustling stalls offering unique gifts and delicious treats to the lively musical performances that had everyone singing along, the day was packed with festive cheer. A special shout-out goes to Martin Fielder and the Overton Business Association, who, with assistance from the Basingstoke Rotary Club, brought this magical event together. Their efforts ensured a seamless and joyful experience for all attendees.
One of the highlights of the day was undoubtedly the snow machine, which delighted children and adults alike, transforming Overton into a winter wonderland. Seeing the kids’ faces light up as the “snow” fell was truly heartwarming—and we must admit, we had just as much fun in the snow!
The event was hosted by Overton Radio presenters Rob Francis, Kevin Ridgeon, and newcomer Sam Carrington. Kevin, who fully embraced the festive spirit dressed as The Grinch, added a playful charm to the day, while Sam made an excellent debut, bringing warmth and energy to the stage. The trio kept the crowd entertained throughout, ensuring no moment lacked festive sparkle.
A huge thank you goes out to the stallholders, who braved the chill to showcase their wares and bring vibrancy to the event, and to the talented musical performers who filled the air with joyous melodies. Your contributions truly made the Overton Christmas Market event special. A special thank you as well goes to Borough Councillor & Deputy Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane Colin Phillimore who switched the lights on for us.
Reflecting on the day, Rob Francis shared, “It was an absolute pleasure to host this event alongside Kevin and Sam. We had so much fun, and it was wonderful to see the community come together to celebrate.”
As the last notes of carols faded and the snow machine switched off, one thing was clear—this year’s Overton Christmas market was a resounding success. And with plans already underway for next year, we can’t wait to do it all over again!
