Met Office issues weather warning as strong winds set to hit

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds, in place from 8pm on Sunday until 8pm on Monday.

Forecasters say gusty conditions are likely to cause disruption across parts of the country, with coastal areas expected to be worst affected.

What to expect:

  • Spray and large waves along sea fronts, coastal routes and in some seaside communities.
  • A slight chance of damage to buildings, including tiles being blown from roofs.
  • Delays to road, rail, air and ferry services.
  • Possible power cuts, which could also impact mobile phone coverage.
  • A small chance of injuries or danger to life from flying debris.
  • The possibility of road and bridge closures in exposed areas.

The Met Office is urging people to take care when travelling and to secure outdoor items ahead of the incoming weather.

The warning comes as unsettled conditions continue to dominate, with further updates expected as the storm system develops.
