Our village postman is lacing up his walking boots for a cause that’s deeply personal. Steve Dare, who has been a familiar face on local doorsteps for the last few months, is set to embark on a grueling 26-mile hike on June 8th in support of Naomi House & Jacksplace, a charity that holds a special place in his heart.
Steve’s fiancée, Debbie, tragically lost her son Frankie nearly four years ago to Pontocerebellar Hypoplasia (PCH), a rare and life-limiting condition. During his short life, Naomi House & Jacksplace provided vital respite care, offering moments of comfort and support when they were needed most.
“The care and compassion they showed to Debbie and Frankie was incredible,” said Steve. “This hike is my way of giving something back and ensuring other families in similar situations get the same incredible support.”
The 26-mile trek will push Steve to his limits, but he’s determined to complete the challenge in Frankie’s memory and to raise much-needed funds for the hospice, which supports children and young adults with life-threatening conditions.
Steve is calling on the community to rally behind him, whether by sponsoring his hike or simply spreading the word. “Every donation, big or small, makes a huge difference,” he added.
