Overton is set to welcome a spectacular procession of festive tractors later next month, with this year’s Christmas Light Tractor Run scheduled to pass through the village on Saturday 28 November.
Organisers have shared an initial outline of the route, with changes planned following confusion over the procession’s movements last year. The tractors will enter Overton via the main road before turning left into Winchester Street, with the Pond Close and Sapley Lane section tackled in the opposite direction to last year.
The procession will then emerge near The Greyhound before heading back down towards the traffic lights. From there, it will turn left, passing The Red Lion pub before continuing out of the village towards Whitchurch.
Organisers are hoping the illuminated tractors will arrive in Overton at around 7pm. The later start is intended to ensure it is properly dark when the procession reaches each village, allowing the Christmas lights to be seen at their best.
Although the timing means Overton’s market will have finished for the day, organisers hope some local shops, stalls and cafés might consider extending their trading hours to give people something to enjoy while waiting for the tractors to arrive.
The route will not include the Woodlands section this year, following difficulties with larger vehicles navigating that part of the route during last year’s event.
A clearer map of the route is expected to be released nearer the date.
Volunteers are also being sought to help with the event, including collecting donations using buckets and assisting with traffic direction along the route. Anyone interested in getting involved is encouraged to contact the organisers.
The Christmas Light Tractor Run promises to bring plenty of festive cheer to Overton, giving residents another opportunity to come together and enjoy the sight of brightly decorated tractors making their way through the village as the Christmas season gets underway.
