As autumn arrives and Bonfire Night celebrations light up the skies, residents are being reminded to enjoy fireworks responsibly and think of those around them – both people and pets – who may find the loud bangs distressing.
While fireworks are a much-loved part of this time of year, unexpected noise can have a serious impact on vulnerable individuals, including the elderly, people with sensory sensitivities, and animals who can be easily frightened.
To help everyone enjoy the season safely, here are a few ways to celebrate considerately:
- Attend an organised display. Public events are not only spectacular but also reduce the number of private fireworks being set off across residential areas.
- Stick to traditional dates. Only use fireworks around Bonfire Night, Diwali, New Year’s Eve or other recognised celebrations. This gives neighbours time to prepare and limits anxiety for those affected.
- Choose quieter fireworks. Silent or low-noise fireworks are now widely available and still offer a brilliant visual display without the loud bangs.
By celebrating thoughtfully, we can all help make this autumn’s festivities enjoyable – and safe – for everyone.
