A community fundraiser has been launched to support Whitchurch gym owners John and Chrissy Ruffell after a devastating fire destroyed their business while they were away taking part in a charity challenge.
John and Chrissy run the Hampshire Fitness Centre in Whitchurch, a business they have spent years building and developing into a welcoming space for people in the local community.
The couple have poured their time, energy and passion into the gym, supporting its members and creating a place that has become much more than simply somewhere to exercise.
In recent months, they have also been giving their time to support a cause close to their hearts, raising money for cancer research by taking part in the Copenhagen Half Marathon.
But while John and Chrissy were away, tragedy struck.
A devastating fire destroyed their gym, wiping out the business and everything they had worked so hard to build.
In a matter of moments, their livelihood, their business and years of hard work were lost.
Now, members of the local community are coming together to support the couple as they face the enormous task of rebuilding.
Those behind the fundraising appeal say John and Chrissy have put their “heart, soul and life” into the gym, with their dedication and commitment evident to everyone who has come into contact with them.
The appeal has been set up to help John and Chrissy in any way possible and, perhaps just as importantly, to show them how much love and support there is for them within the community.
Every donation, no matter how large or small, can help them begin the long process of rebuilding their business and getting back on their feet.
