Overton Cricket Club faced a tough but eventful Saturday, with results ranging from a heavy defeat to a narrow win across their senior sides.
The First XI were beaten away at Hungerford after a high-scoring match. Hungerford posted 342 for 5 from their 45 overs, setting a strong target. Overton responded with 245 for 8, falling short by 97 runs despite a solid batting effort.
There was a much closer contest for the Second XI, who edged out East Woodhay in a tense finish. East Woodhay were bowled out for 107 in 27 overs. Overton reached the target but only just, finishing on 108 for 8 from 19 overs to secure a two-wicket win.
The Third XI faced a difficult afternoon against Holybourne. Chasing 333 for victory, Overton were dismissed for 139 in 37.4 overs, losing by 194 runs.
Attention now turns to today’s fixtures. The Women’s First XI host Yateley Women’s Second XI at Berrydown at 1pm, while the Sunday First XI take on Great Bedwyn at the Recreation Centre, also starting at 1pm.
