School Crossing Patrol Role Available in Overton to Help Keep Children Safe

A new opportunity has opened in Overton for a School Crossing Patrol officer, with Hampshire County Council looking for someone to support safe journeys to and from school at the busy Bridge Street crossing.

The role is part of Hampshire’s wider School Crossing Patrol Service, which supports children, parents, and local communities by making road crossings safer at peak school times.

The position is permanent but term-time only, with 10 hours of work per week. That usually means one hour in the morning and one in the afternoon on school days.

This is a visible, community-based role. The successful applicant will stand at the crossing point during busy traffic times, stop vehicles when needed, and help pedestrians cross safely. The aim is simple: reduce risk and keep people moving safely through a busy junction.

A calm and steady presence is key. The council is looking for someone reliable, alert, and confident working outdoors in all weather. Good awareness of traffic and the ability to stay focused in a busy environment are essential. Basic IT use is also part of the role.

Uniform is provided, and the post sits within a wider team of School Crossing Patrol staff across Hampshire.

Applications will be reviewed as they arrive, and the advert may close early depending on demand. The closing date is 1 July 2026.

A spokesperson for the service said the role plays an important part in daily life for families, helping children get to school safely while easing pressure on busy roads.
