Overton’s seventh Scarecrow Festival has raised an impressive £10,000 for the village’s recreation facilities, helping to support plans for new sports and recreation grounds.
Described as the biggest and best festival yet, the event, hosted by the Overton Radio team, attracted an estimated 3,000 visitors from across the region. More than 60 stalls, along with dozens of creative scarecrows dotted around the village, provided plenty of entertainment for visitors of all ages.
The £10,000 raised has now been presented to Overton Recreation Centre (ORC), which provides sports and recreation facilities across 30 acres of green space and is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
The ORC has earmarked the money towards the new grounds it is seeking to develop, helping to meet the future needs of the village as Overton continues to experience substantial housing growth.
The success of this year’s festival highlights the strength of community support for protecting and expanding the recreational facilities available to local residents, while giving thousands of visitors the opportunity to enjoy everything Overton has to offer.
