Weekly Food Waste Collections Begin in Basingstoke and Deane Next Week

Weekly food waste collections begin next week, starting the week of Monday 6 October. This new initiative is designed to help households recycle more efficiently, reduce the amount of food going to landfill, and support the borough’s environmental goals.

Households can now start filling their food waste caddies and communal food waste bins in preparation for the first collection. Every resident has received an information leaflet outlining what can and cannot be recycled through the scheme. It’s important to share the leaflet with everyone in your household, so that all food waste is disposed of correctly and no items are mistakenly placed in general waste.

If your leaflet is misplaced or you need extra guidance, help is easy to access. Each grey indoor caddy has a QR code on the top, which you can scan for step-by-step instructions on food waste recycling. The scheme accepts a wide variety of food waste, including leftovers, fruit and vegetable peelings, eggshells, and even teabags and coffee grounds – making it simple to reduce the strain on household bins.

Collections will take place weekly on the same day as your usual waste and recycling pickup, unless the council has notified you of a different schedule. Residents are encouraged to make the most of this service from day one, helping the borough divert food waste from landfill and contribute to a more sustainable community.

So get your caddies ready, check your leaflets, and start recycling your food waste next week. It’s an easy step that benefits your household and the environment – and every little bit counts.
