St Mary’s Overton launches search for new Children and Families Minister

St Mary’s Church in Overton has opened applications for a new Children and Families Minister, a part-time role created to support the growing number of families attending the church.

The post is based at St Mary’s Church, Overton and reports to the Rector, James Russell.

The church says the role will focus on helping children under the age of 11 grow in their faith, while also strengthening support for parents and carers across the parish.

The successful candidate will lead and develop the church’s work with children and families, co-ordinate the Sunday Children’s Group, support and supervise volunteers, and help plan teaching programmes and special events such as holiday clubs and festival activities at Christmas and Easter.

A key part of the role will be building links with the local community, including continuing close work with Overton CofE Primary School and supporting existing outreach projects such as JoyZone.

The minister will also work with other churches across the parish group, known as the Overton Benefice, and help produce publicity for church and local publications.

The church is looking for a committed Christian with experience of running children’s groups, strong communication skills and a warm, practical approach to pastoral care. A good sense of humour and the ability to inspire and support volunteers are also seen as important.

The post is offered on a three-year fixed-term contract for 20 hours a week, with the possibility of extension subject to funding. The starting rate is £15.50 an hour, with a six-month probation period. The role is subject to an enhanced DBS check and safer recruitment procedures.

The closing date for applications is 30 April 2026 at 5pm. Interviews will take place on 13 May 2026.

Informal enquiries can be made to the Rector, Revd James Russell, on 01256 589614 or by email at revjames.overton@gmail.com, or to church administrator Ruth Williams on 07783 632859 or admin@stmarysoverton.co.uk.
