Folk Orc

The aim of The Folk Orc is to get more people playing music, and this is what our Festival Workshops are here to do. With our crew of tutors we introduce people to playing music. Some of the people we have come into our tent have never played an instrument before, they may be young or old, it doesn’t matter to us, we can get them playing and joining in. We are also there for people who already play an instrument and either want to try something different, pick up a few tips or get some experience playing with other like minded musicians whilst learning some traditional folk songs. Folk music is about community, sharing experiences and telling stories. We want to bring folk music back to being about everyday people playing music together.

Cold Toast

We are three youthful old dudes who play Irish, English and American folk music around the south of the UK. We play festivals, country shows, pubs and clubs, and all sorts of special occasions.

JLD School of Dance

JLD was founded by two best friends and trained dancers Jo Eustace and Lucy Bamford in 1991. They set up the school in a small hall before finding the studios we now use today. They have sent numerous students to top performing arts schools as well as many attending The Royal Ballet School and Elmhurst. Jo and Lucy are the reason we have the school and it’s wonderful premises today so don’t miss one of thier two performances at Sheepfair!

Men Of Wight

The Men of Wight Mixed Morris are a team (or side) of Morris Dancers, who live and dance on the Isle of Wight. The dances we perform come mostly from the Cotswolds, though there are a few from elsewhere in the country, and we have even been known to do the odd bit of sword dancing.

Sassy Steve

Sassy Steve brings silhouette portraits to the Sheepfair which were at the height of their popularity in 18th & 19th Century Europe. They are cut freehand in the traditional way from the most delicate black paper as the artist studies your profile, capturing your essence and likeness in a single, elegant line. These unique mementos of a special event are then mounted on card, ready to frame and presented as gifts which they will keep forever. Each silhouette takes between 3-5 minutes to cut, so Steve can cover a lot of people at the Sheepfair weekend so be sure to find him and get yours!

Southampton Ukelele Jam

There are many aspects to Southampton Ukulele Jam. We are, in equal parts, a jam, a community, a social club, a ukulele ‘boot camp’ and a gigging band. We endeavour to be a force for good; supporting worthwhile causes, raising money for charity and promoting tolerance, acceptance and diversity by playing good songs with more enthusiasm than ability on tiny instruments. Musically, we steer clear of traditional ukulele tunes, preferring instead to delve into a repertoire that runs from Kylie Minogue to The Clash via The Vaccines and Lady Gaga. See them on Saturday at the Sheepfair!

Steve Donnelly
