Overton in Jane Austen’s Time – Part 2: Exploring Life in the Regency Era

Heritage Overton is inviting residents and visitors alike to step back into the world of Jane Austen this November, with the second instalment of its fascinating local history series Overton in Jane Austen’s Time.

The talk takes place on Thursday 20 November 2025 at 7.30pm in St Mary’s Church Rooms, and will delve into what life was really like in Overton during the early 19th century – a period often romanticised in literature, but far from easy for many.

This follow-up event will explore themes including poverty, illness, crime and punishment, military service, the church, and travel, painting a vivid picture of everyday existence in the village during Austen’s lifetime.

All are welcome to attend, and organisers promise an evening that’s both informative and thought-provoking for history buffs and Austen enthusiasts alike.

Entry is £5, and refreshments will be available.
