Overton United’s first team were beaten 3-0 at home by AFC Netley in the Hampshire Premier League Senior Division on Saturday.

The reserves also suffered a difficult afternoon in the ADFA Junior Cup, losing 7-1 to Upper Hale’s first team at Berrydown, Scotty Winterbourne the only Overton player on the scoresheet.

However, Sunday brought better fortunes for Overton United’s other sides, with both teams recording victories away from home.

Overton United Sunday came from behind to beat Basingstoke Boars 5-3 in the Bernard Cornish Cup on Sunday morning , producing five goals to secure an entertaining cup win.

The veterans also enjoyed success in the Mike Parker Trophy, defeating Mondial FC Veterans 6-3. The nine-goal contest saw Overton’s experienced side find the net six times to claim an impressive victory.

Meanwhile, Overton Rugby Club faced a tough afternoon on Saturday in Hampshire Counties 3, suffering a 55-0 defeat away to Lymington Mariners.

With two wins from the four football fixtures played across the weekend, Overton’s Sunday sides provided the highlights, while the senior teams will be looking to bounce back in their next matches.

Overton travelled to the Isle of Wight hoping to begin the new campaign with a positive result, but were ultimately beaten by a strong home side.

The defeat leaves Overton ninth in the Counties 3 Hampshire table after the first round of matches, with plenty of rugby still to come in what promises to be a long season.

Attention now turns to their first home fixture, as Overton look to put Saturday’s result behind them and get their campaign up and running.

They welcome Fawley to Odd Ball Lane for the next league fixture, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.

With home support behind them, Overton will be hoping for a much-improved performance and the chance to pick up their first points of the season.
